THE WORD for the WEEK
Title: What type of Christian R U? 8/24/2020
“These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness (GOD)…So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of my mouth. Because you say…I am wealthy and have need of nothing-and do not know that you are wretched (weak), miserable and poor (proud without core values), blind (lost sight of God), and naked (defeated and humiliated)…As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Thus, be zealous and repent. Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come into him (her), and he (she) with me…”. Revelation 3:14-22
God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him. Thus, this infers there are times we are not satisfied with God. There does exist different “spiritual” temperature-regulated Christians. There is the cold-hearted type (Matt 24:12); the heart burning on fire, fervent type (Luke 24:32) and then there were the Luke-warm types described above in Revelation 3:14-22.
The church at Laodicea was known as the “Lukewarm church” located in 17 BC near Hieropolis and the city of Colosse. It was a wealthy city. Its people known for manufacturing wool and medicinal “eye salves”.
The Lord loves his people and wants all saved. God is Faithful and Most True. He presented himself to the Church at Laodicea. He was about to tell this church about their poor spiritual health. But, they would not believe his assessment.
Peter tells us Christian believers similarly, when a Christian is not growing in the knowledge of God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, his spiritual eyesight/vision is adversely affected and is blind. 2 Peter 1:5-9 says, we should give all diligence to add to our faith, the virtues of knowledge, self-control, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness and brotherly love.
The church at Liacodicea had lost their strength, were not following their core values, and had become proud. They were blind to themselves and lost sight of God; were naked, too busy commending themselves.
The Lord says Repent: I stand not inside you but outside of you. But, I will save you and I will open the door. So the question becomes:
What type of Christian R U? Today it is time for an assessment. God’s Xrays examines our lives. Abide in His Word, fellowship with Him daily and draw from His power.
